Special police team formed as chain-snatching incidents rise in City

Two of gold chain-snatching incidents and a theft case were reported in the city on Thursday. The loss suffered to two women and a man was 14 sovereigns of gold worth Rs 1.4 lakh.

A special team has been formed in the wake of growing incidents of chain-snatching and theft, a senior police officer told The Covai Post.

In the first incident, two motorcycle-borne youths snatched a five-sovereigns chain of Sree Latha on Lokmanya Street in RS Puram when she was returning after dropping her child at school, police said.

R S puram police filed a case and investigation is on.In the second incident, 69-year-old Lakshmanan were walking towards Shanthi Asram Road in Kovaipudur here with his wife when two persons came in a motorcycle and snatched a nine-sovereign chain, Kunniyamuthur police said.

In the third, Nalini (40), who runs a vegetable shop found her five-sovereign chain stolen from her shop, according to Saravanampatti police.
