Police recovered some stolen gold ornaments and silver articles from an abandoned car in Thudiyalur on the outskirts of Coimbatore today.

During their routine morning rounds, the police found a car abandoned at Ammanaickenplayam in the rural limits. A search of the car revealed gold ornaments weighing six sovereigns, and one kilo of silver articles from it.

Further investigations revealed that the car belonged to a Chandrasekharan of Thoppampatty, who had filed a missing complaint, police said. The valuables recovered from the car were stolen from the house of one Ramachandran in the same area.

Two home guards attached to the Coimbatore District were the first to notice the vehicle. The thieves fled from the spot after seeing the home guards, Vivek and Arul Prakash. The home guards immediately informed the police about the car and the valuables inside.

The Superintendent of Police has announced a special reward to honour the home guards.
