Thanjavur: CPI state secretary Mutharasan exhorted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take stern action against the BJP cadres and RSS activists for attacking the Dalits in the name of cow protection, caste, and religion and stop ‘sermonizing’ the general public on this issue.

Addressing the media persons in Thanjavur, Mutharasan pointed out that the BJP and RSS activists are the ones who keep attacking the Dalits under the excuse of cow-protection, caste, and religion. “Modi should initiate stern action and control his party cadres and RSS activists from attacking the Dalits. There is no use in ‘preaching’ the public in general not to attack the Dalits”, Mutharasan said.

Mutharasan said that Kuruvai cultivation was not taken up in the delta region for the fifth successive year as Karnataka did not release the water due for Tamil Nadu. Samba cultivation has also now become uncertain as the water storage in Mettur dam is not adequate, he said, and urged the central and state governments to initiate firm actions to get water from Karnataka.

The CPI leader also urged the state government to immediately convene an all-party meeting and pressurize the central government to get water from Karnataka as per the final verdict of Cauvery water tribunal.

If the state government failed to do so, CPI will organize a massive agitation, he warned.
