A group of street performers, residing on the pavements at Thadagam Road near Gandhi Park, today appealed to the District Administration to provide them patta lands.

The members, from around 20 families, two months back staged a show in front of the collectorate highlighting the problems faced by them. They also submitted a petition then for the same.

“We have been living in Thadagam Road near Gandhi Park for more than 20 years. We have no government document including voter ID cards and ration cards,” said V. Meenakshi, one of the petitioners.

“Our profession has only helped us survive on a day-to-day basis. It has not helped us come up economically.

Unfortunately even our children are forced to perform with us sometimes. We do not want our children to follow our footsteps. We are finding difficult to get our children admitted in schools as we lack the required papers,” she added.

Later, the members submitted a petition to District Collector T.N. Hariharan.
