Students of the CBM College, a private institution, climbed atop the college building and threatened to commit suicide by jumping down. They were on an agitation for the past few months, demanding basic amenities like clean toilets and adequate faculty members.

The students claim that despite taking up the issue with the district collector several times, the college management and the district administration continue to ignore their demands. As a last resort, they demanded that the government take over the college, for the sake of the more than 1,000 students who study there.

Even as the students were observing dharna on the college premises, some climbed atop the building and threatened to jump down and die for the cause.

A large number of police personnel were brought to the spot. They managed to pacify and bring the students down. The district officials have also assured the students that they will take up the issue with the higher authorities.
