Students try out culinary skills at biryani fest

Students of the Catering Department of Sankara College of Science and Commerce displayed their culinary skills at the Biryani Fest on Wednesday.

The event – Rusikka Vaanga Biryani – was part of Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) programme of the department that aims to give the students a hands on experience in preparing the dishes and to make them learn the marketing skills. “The students will not only learn how to try out various dishes, but also learn the cost involved in preparing the food items and how to earn profit out of it. These type of food festivals are being organised every month, so that the students gain lot of practical experience,” Anandraj, Professor of the Catering Department said.

A number of varieties – Chettinadu Veg Biryani, Nilgiris Veg Biryani, Sweet Corn Biryani, Mushroom Biryani, Egg Biryani, Dindigul Mutton Biryani, Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani, Ambur Chicken Biryani, Chettinadu Chicken Biryani and Malabar Fish Biryani – were prepared by the students.
