Suicide abetment case against IT officials

Coimbatore : Rural police Saturday registered a case against Income Tax officials for the mysterious death of an accountant of Martin Group of companies, whose body was found lying in a pond in Karamadai on Friday noon.

IT officials had raided the offices and properties of lottery operator Martin cross the country, including 22 premises in the city on April 30 and had taken T Palanisamy for interrogation.

Palanisamy was released on May two after questioning and had reportedly inflicted self injuries on his hand. However, Palanisamy’s body was found lying in the pond Friday afternoon in Karamadai here.

Police had registered a case of suicide. However, his son and family expressed serious doubts about the death and claimed that he was subjected to torture during interrogation, which led to his death.

According to his son P Robin Kumar, his 43-year old father had told him on Friday morning that he was going to office. However, he received the information that his father’s body had been found in Karamadai and he lodged a formal complaint seeking a probe into the death.

Based on the complaint, Karamadai police registered a case against some IT officials under section IPC 306 (abetment of suicide) and further investigations are on, they said.
