Erring municipal parking lot lessee Rajaveedi A Sivakumar found his contract cancelled followin a surprise raid carried out by CCMC Commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan.

As per existing norms, a fee of Rs 5 should be collected for the first three hours and Rs 10 for the following three hours. The punitive step was taken as the contractor overcharged and fleeced the public, and collected parking charges over and above the prescribed one.

Likewise, two lessees of pay toilets in Gandhipuram bus stand were slapped with fines for overcharging the public. Instead of the prescribed Rs 1, the lessees, A Harikrishnan and S Velusamy, allegedly collected Rs 5 and issued no receipts, and were slapped with a fine of Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000 each.

The CCMCC issued a warning to erring lessees saying that their name would be blacklisted if they were found to be overcharging. The corporation will depute their employees to man parking lots when the license of the existing lessee stood cancelled.
