Following the lackluster performance in the recent state assembly elections, the Tamil Nadu Congress launched a revamp exercise by removing and replacing many of its local leaders. The move comes ahead of the upcoming local body elections.

The Tamil Nadu Congress, under the leadership of EVKS Elangovan, had contested in 41 seats this time, wining only eight. Political observers claim that the allocation of 41 seats to the Congress and the fact that they had lost 33 of those seats are also among the reasons why the DMK couldn’t win the elections this time.

Among the district heads who find themselves dismissed are those of Kanyakumari, Krishnagiri, Nagapattinam, Thiruvallur, Tirunelveli, and Tirupur. New district secretaries were immediately announced too.
