Tearful adieu to former minister Ko Si Mani

Thanjavur: Hundreds of people and leaders of various political parties today paid their homage and bid a tearful adieu to former minister and veteran DMK leader Ko Si Mani, who passed away on Friday night. He was 87.

Ko Si Man, who had been unwell for long, passed away at a private hospital in Kumbakonam. His body was taken to his residence at Aduthurai, where it was kept for the public to pay homage.

Among others, DMK treasurer MK Stalin, MDMK general secretary Vaiko, former Union ministers TR Baalu and A Raja, former ministers MRK Panneerselvam, Thangam Thennarasu and KN Nehru visited Aduthrurai and paid their respects to the departed leader today.

Later, the mortal remains of Ko Si Mani were taken in a procession and cremated in his native Mekkirimangalam village in Nagapattinam district.

Mani had settled in Aduthurai and was a regular face of DMK regimes, holding portfolios of local administration, cooperation and agriculture. Of the five stints as MLA, he was elected four times from Kumbakonam constituency and once from Aduthurai constituency.
He was DMK’s district secretary of the Thanjavur composite district and also worked as the regional secretary. He was a member of the party’s policy-making body till his demise.
