A 15-year-old boy on Thursday committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of his house in Rathinapuri in the city.

Police, quoting family sources, said Jaffer, studying Grade 10 in a private school in Ramnagar, returned home around 11 a.m. from school and bolted the door of his room from inside.

As he did not open the door for a long time, his mother raised an alarm and neighbours rushed there and broke open the door, only to see the boy hanging, police said.

Jaffer was rushed to the Government Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Investigations are on to ascertain the reason for this extreme step.
