Thanjavur: To ease the ever-growing vehicular traffic in Thanjavur, which attracts a considerable number of foreign and domestic tourists every year, at least 13 new bridges are now being constructed at an outlay of Rs 102 crore.

District Collector A. Annadurai today visited and inspected the progress of the ongoing construction works of the 13 bridges in the district.

The collector inspected the progress of the ongoing construction of the railway over-bridge on the Thanjavur-Nagapattinam Road at Santhapillai Gate, and instructed the officials to expeditiously complete the construction. The railway over bridge, measuring 570 metres long and 12 metres wide, is being constructed by the Highway Department, at an outlay of Rs.52 crores, under NABARD and rural road schemes.

The collector also inspected the ongoing construction of the bridge across the Grand Anaicut Canal, opposite to the world renowned Brahadeeswarar Temple, popularly known as Big Temple, in Thanjavur. The bridge is constructed at an outlay of Rs.38 crores.
