With protests seeking promulgation of an ordinance to conduct Jallikkattu, a member of Board Management of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Karthikeyan Shivasenapathi today tendered his resignation from the post, to lodge his protest on the issue.

Shivasenapathi has submitted his resignation letter to the Governor of Tamil Nadu, marking copies to Principal Secretary, Agriculture and Vice Chancellor of the University, official sources said.

In his letter he said that he was resigning the post in protest against the ban on Jallikkattu and not finding an amicable solution.

Meanwhile, local traders have decided to down their shutters tomorrow in support of the traditional sport, even as a textile association in Tirupur also called for the closure of knitwear manufacturing units there.

Some students of a private Polytechnic on the outskirts poured Coke and Pepsi to the ground to lodge their protest against PETA, for hurting the sentiments of crores of Tamils, for its stand against Jallikkattu.

The VOC Park Grounds, the venue of the students’ protest, saw visitors from Tamil film industry, who appreciated the students’ discipline and peaceful demonstration. Tamil actors Ranjith and Mayilsamy and Hiphop Tamizha Adhithya appreciated the students for their relentless efforts for the conduct of the sport.

Some farmers in Vellalore in the city brought a native bull and also cows at the venue, much to the surprise of the agitators.
