A tractor with two trailers hit the rear end of the Vridhachalam Salem Passenger near Athur in Salem today. The tractor was hurrying through an unmanned level crossing when the accident happened.

There was no derailment or casualties, officials said.

After tractor hit the train, the trailer got disconnected. The driver fled with the tractor, said a railway official. The driver had earphones and so must not have heard the sound of the train.

There was a minor damage to the train. A relief loco was sent and the damaged train was stopped near Chinna Salem.

Engineers from Golden Rock workshop examined the damaged part, he added.

The Karaikal-Bengaluru Passenger was detained at Chinna Salem for two hours.
