Transwomen staged street plays and other programmes near Gandhipuram bus terminus here on Wednesday to stress the importance of exercising one’s franchise.

Transwomen showcased through their performance the duty of citizens to cast their vote and how essential it was to use this to choose their respective leaders.

Inaugurating the campaign, District Collector and Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik said that as many as 243 transwomen have received voter ID cards in the district.

Stating that the District Administration was conducting various awareness drives to ensure 100 per cent polling in the district, she also urged people to turn up with responsibility during the elections.

“It is a right which the people should not miss and that is why we conduct such awareness drives,” she added.

District Revenue Officer T. Christuraj and other officials were also present during the campaign.
