Two persons sustained serious injuries and two others received minor wounds when their car fell in to a 100-feet gorge at Kallatti, about 35 kilometres from Coimbatore, today.

A couple and their 13-year-old daughter, Ashwini, from Coimbatore were coming to Mudumalai, when their car driver, Kalidas, lost control at a hairpin bend, and fell into the gorge.

The car struck a tree at 60th feet, preventing it from a major mishap. Kalidas fractured his one hand and Aswini sustained serious injuries, while the parents, Varadharajan and Lakshmi, escaped unhurt.

Fire and rescue personnel, along with the local police and residents, lifted the passengers from the car and admitted them to the Government hospital. The seriously injured will be shifted to a private hospital in Coimbatore.
