City-based goldsmith U.M.T. Raja, who is also a die-hard fan of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran, has etched MGR’s face on a gold coin.

Excited with the Union Finance Ministry’s announcement to release Rs. 100 coin to commemorate the birth centenary of the late leader, Raja, a prominent miniature artist, etched MGR’s face along with the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol on a coin, which is of the same size as the one rupee coin.

“MGR was a great leader. His film Unnal Mudiyum Thambi inspired me a lot. That is why I kept UMT as my initial. He will be my hero forever. I was excited when the Government announced about the coin. I just cannot wait to get one. The next generation will also remember him through the coin,” he said.
