The amazing herb, camel grass or vetiver in Tamil, will soon play a key role in strengthening soil fertility around the banks of the Singanallur lake.

More than 20,000 vetiver plants will take root around the lake as part of a clean-up operation initiated by Animal Rescuers, who will be supported by service organisations such as Agni Siraguhal, Green Globus, and Sixth Sense.

The lake has been cleared of plastic debris and saplings of palm trees and other fruit bearing trees have been planted around it.

Yesterday, the programme to plant vetiver in addition to Koraipul, which cleans and purifies the lake, was inaugurated by Coimbatore mayor Rajkumar and Tamil Nadu Agriculture University vice-chancellor Ramasamy.
