Pudukkottai: Hundreds of villagers affected by demonetisation blocked roads in Kothanmangalam village near Alangudi in Pudukkottai district condemning bank authorities who failed to transact business and pay them up their salaries.

According to sources, the villagers who were working under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme, had come to the Bank of India branch at Kothamangalam to withdraw their salaries, but banks authorities could not comply, due to lack of cash.

Objecting against the non- payment of salaries under the scheme, the beneficiaries blocked the road due to which traffic was affected for two hours on the Kothamagalam-Keeramangalam sector. The villagers dispersed only after the police and revenue officials intervened and promised them that salaries would be distributed to them.
