A team of surgeons at the Dr Muthu’s Hospital, Singanallur, harvested the vital organs of M Dhanapal, a driver of Somanur who was declared brain dead, after he met with an accident on the night of November 19.

Dhanapal was brought in an ambulance to the hospital in an unconscious state. As the doctors’ efforts to revive him failed, his kin decided to donate his vital organs.

Following this, a team of doctors, headed by Dr Saravanamuthu Kumar, harvested the vital organs and sent them to beneficiaries in Chennai and Coimbatore hospitals. While his heart and lung was taken to Fortis Malar Hospital in Chennai, the liver was taken to Gems hospital and the two kidneys taken to KG Hospital in Coimbatore.
