“If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one” – Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa’s thought is the driving force behind the people at Food Bank Coimbatore which celebrated its 100th food drive by organizing “The massive cooking event.”

About 70 volunteers and the general public got together for this cooking event in which they cooked food for 1,000 people. Seven hotel management students from SNR Sons College also participated in this event.

Vaishnavee Balaji, founder of the food bank, said, “From last night onwards volunteers are here for the preparation and today morning we started making food. Many people from the city have contributed by giving vegetables, rice and other ingredients to make this event successful.”

A Sam, a volunteer with the food bank said, “I am associated with the food bank since the last three months. For the past week, we have been going and collecting grocery from the households that are donating to the cause by people in city after coming across the event poster through WhatsApp and Facebook.”

“I came to know about this drive through the newspaper, so I just came to help. It feels good to be part of this noble cause,” said Mouli Pramita, a homemaker who came to volunteer.

The freshly prepared food was distributed by the volunteers on two-wheelers in the city. Around 450 food packets were distributed to the elderly, handicapped and needy people, and 550 packets were distributed to city orphanages.
