The sixth round of wage revision talks for the garment workers in and around Tirupur district is scheduled for March 24, following the failure of the fifth round of talks today.

The parties in the negotiations include the representatives of six manufacturers associations, including Tirupur Exporters Association and South India Hosiery Manufacturers Association, and eight major trade unions.

S. Duraisamy, President, Joint Action Committee of Trade Unions, said that the associations offered 18 percent hike in the wages in the first year, a three percent increase from the previous offer, and three percent annual hike during second, third, and fourth year. But the unions have demanded 50 percent hike in the first year, 20 percent in the second year, and 10 percent each in the third and fourth year.
