Thanjavur: Students from various schools took out an awareness rally here today to mark World Water Day.
Collector A Annadurai flagged off the rally which commenced from near the railway junction and culminated at the Palace premises after crossing the old bus stand and main thoroughfares.
World Water Day is observed on March 22 every year. The day focuses on the importance of universal access to clean water, sanitation and hygienic facilities in developing countries.
Holding placards, the students distributed pamphlets to the public on the importance of rain water harvesting and conserving water.
The rally was organized by Thanjavur City Corporation to spread awareness about the importance of conserving water.
Besides the students of various schools, Varadharaj, Commissioner of Thanjavur Municipal Corporation, P Manthrachalam, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, J Revathi, Project Director , Mahalir Thittam, Thiruvalarselvi, Chief Educational Officer, V Ramalingam, Executive Engineer, Tamil Nadu Drainage and Water Board, and G Murugesan, Assistant Director of Panchayats took part in the rally.
