Wife bludgeons husband to death, attempt to commit suicide

Coimbatore : A 34-year old woman, after hitting her husband to death, consumed poison and is undergoing treatment in the Government hospital early Sunday.
According to police, Baburaj (37), a printing press staff with wife and three girl children, was living in Sugunapuram in Kuniyamuthur in the city.
For the last few months, Baburaj was living with another woman, deserting his wife and children.
He came to the house around two AM today and started quarreling with wife under influence of liquor, they said.
As wife, Bhagyam refused to entertain and asked him to go out, Baburaj took a beer bottle he was carrying and attempted to attack. The alert wife immediately took a wooden log and hit on the head of Baburaj, who fell unconscious with serious bleeding injuries.
Fearing consequences, Bhagyam consumed phynile and mosquito repellent to commit suicide, police said.
The elder daughter who got up noticed the parents lying unconscious and with the help of neighbours, taken them to Government Hospital.
While Baburaj was declared brought dead the condition of Bhagyam was said to be critical.
