Forest officers were called in to drive out three wild elephants that had entered into the farmlands on Friday and were causing havoc.
It is not unusual for wild elephants to come to the Western Ghats in search of food, and destroy the crops. Three wild elephants entered into farmer Ravi’s land and began destroying the plantain, sugarcane and corn plants.
Forest officers came to the spot and exploded crackers to scare the elephants away, but the animals didn’t budge.
The villagers complain that elephants often destroy their farms. “We have complained a number of times to the forest officers, but they are not taking any serious action to solve the issue,” they said.
