Woman attempts self immolation

A middle-aged woman today attempted to immolate herself at the District Collectorate, alleging that the Revenue Department was delaying the measurement of her land near Annur in the district.
Ammasi, who had come to submit a petition to the Collector, Monday being the grievances day, suddenly took out a bottle of kerosene and poured the contents on her.
Before she could proceed further, some women police personnel, overpowered her and prevented her. She was taken her the nearby police station.
Ammasi alleged that despite many pleas, the Department was not taking steps to measure her land at Molappalayam, about 40 km from here.
