Two men, posing as cops, relieved a 50-year-old woman of her chain weighing seven sovereigns.

The victim, Shanthi Jayaram, a resident of RMS Colony, Thanjavur, was on her way to a flour mill this evening when the two motorcycle borne youth stopped her.

Introducing themselves as policemen, they advised Shanthi to take her jewels safely wrapped in a paper to avoid being snatched. They also offered her help in wrapping it in a paper before speeding away.

On returning home, she opened the packet only to see small stones in it. Shocked that she has been conned by the duo, she lodged a complaint with the Tamil University police who have registered a case.
