Work together for an AIDS free society, Collector tells people

District Collector T.N. Hariharan today flagged off an AIDS awareness rally at the Collectorate.

More than 1000 people, including representatives from NGOs, government officials, school and college students, general public and people affected by AIDS, participated in the rally.

In his speech, Hariharan said people should work together for an AIDS free society. “Such rallies will revive the commitment of those working in the field of HIV,” he added.

According to sources, HIV affected people in Coimbatore were currently receiving free Anti-retroviral therapy (ART) through ART centre in Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. Between 2015 and 2016, 9175 HIV affected people were identified in Coimbatore, while 3879 were receiving ART.

In October 2016, the numbers were 9479 and 3644 respectively, according to a press release.
