Youth National Basketball Championship from May 14

Coimbatore : The 36th Youth National Basketball Championship for boys and girls under 16 will begin here from May 14.

The eight-day championship, organised under the aegis of Basketball Federation of India (BFI), will have participation of 700 players from 25 States, Tamil Nadu Basketball Association secretary, Adhav Arjunan told reporters here Saturday.

The city is hosting the championship after a long gap of 57 years and the best players in the championship will be selected for the National team, he said.

As the tournament is played the indoor stadium of PSG College of Technology, the college has made all arrangements for the boarding and lodging of all the players and 60 jurors, he said.

There will be a prize money of Rs13 lakh, he said.

The Managing Trustee of PSG Charity Institutions, L Gopalkrishnan will inaugurate the tournament in the presence of BFI President, K. Govindaraj..
