Youth sentenced 10-year RI for sexually assaulting minor girl

The Mahila Court in Thanjavur today sentenced a youth to 10 year rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl in 2014.

According to prosecution, the 20-year-old Sivasamy, son of Chinnakuzhandhai and resident of Ilangkadu village in Thirukkattupalli police station, limit took the 17-year-old girl of the same village to a desolate place and sexually assaulted her on May 30, 2014 promising to marry her. The girl was studying Class XII then.

Based on a complaint, Thirukkattupalli police registered a case under Section 366 (abducting or inducing a woman to compel from marriage) of IPC and Section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 and arrested Sivasamy.

The trial was conducted at the Mahila Court in Thanjavur. The judge, who heard the case, found Sivasamy guilty of abducting and sexually assaulting the minor girl. Pronouncing the verdict, the judge sentenced Sivasamy to10 year rigorous imprisonment on each account and slapped a fine of Rs. 500 on each account. The judge, however, ordered him to undergo the imprisonment concurrently.
