KOCHI: The Kerala Government has moved the High Court seeking vacation of the stay on taking action against police personnel allegedly involved in the custodial death of Sreejiv.
The Police Complaint Authority, that probed the case, came to the conclusion that the youth had died due to physical assault by police.
It submitted a report in May 2016 and said that the police had made him consume poison in order to make the death look like a suicide. However, the cops challenged the findings and obtained a stay.
Sreejiv’s elder brother Sreejith has been on a protest in front of the Secretariat for the last two years demanding CBI probe into his brother’s death.
Sreejiv was taken into custody on May 19, 2014 by Parassala police – two days before the wedding of the girl whom he loved.
Police slapped a petty theft case against him.
However, the very next day Sreejiv was admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital for allegedly consuming poison in the police station. He died on May 21.
