Kochi: In a major lapse on part of the motor vehicles department, an unregistered luxury bus had been operating inside the airport for the last six years.

The bus was operated by a contractor to ferry passengers to and from the airport.

The matter came to light after the government decided to go after the evaders to make good of the revenue crunch faced by the government.

The bus was detained when it was being taken outside the airport for repairs. It was impounded by the MVD for cheating the government.

Incidentally, no case has been registered against the contractor.

Ironically, V Suresh Kumar, Joint Transport commissioner, (enforcement), told The Covai Post that no case had been registered and hastened to add that he had not much idea about the incident.

There are unconfirmed reports that there can be more such vehicles running inside the airport.
