Actor-abduction case trial begins, Dileep appears

Kochi: Trial on the actor abduction and abuse case began at the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court here today.

Actor Dileep and other accused appeared in the court.The court directed to hand over all evidence, except the video clippings of the victim, to Dileep, the eighth accused in the case.

Dileep’s plea seeking the clippings is pending before Kerala High Court. The case was adjourned for March 28. On the other hand, the victim filed a petition seeking a woman judge to hear the case.

She also sought holding of the trial in camera and speedy completion of the proceedings. She also wanted the court to allow her to have her own counsel.

When the court asked her why she needed a counsel when there was a special prosecutor. If needed counsel could help the prosecutor, the court added.

The actor was abducted and abused while traveling from Thrissur to Kochi on February 17, last year. There were 14 accused in the case. As two of them turned approvers, the number of accused dropped down to 12, including actor Dileep, Sunil Kumar (alias) Pulsar Suni, Martin Antony, Manikandan, V P Vijesh, P Saleem, P Pradeep, Charlie Thomas, Sanil Kumar, K Vishnu, advocate Pradesh Cacko and advocate Raju Joseph.
