Rs 5L Kerala Govt solatium to deceased Latvian Liga’s kin

Kochi: Kerala Government has handed over a solatium of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of deceased Latvian national Liga.

The draft in Euro was handed over to her sister Ilze by Tourism Minister Kadakampallly Surendran in Thiruvananthapuram.

She expressed satisfaction over the government’s action, following her sister’s death.

Tourism secretary Rani George, tourism department director Balakiran and additional director Jaffer Malik were present. Later, Surendran said in a Facebook post that the government was working to clear legal hurdles in transporting the body to her country.

The Government would bear all expenses, including transportation of the body, travel of relatives, their boarding and lodging among others, he added.

The government would ensure that the investigation into the death was carried out efficiently, he added.

Liga, 33, was found dead in the mangroves in Kovalam in Thiruvananthapuram a few days ago.
