Jallikattu: CPI, AITUC activists stage demo

Thanjavur: Members of CPI and AITUC Auto Drivers Association today staged a demonstration near the old bus stand here urging the Central Government to immediately promulgate an ordinance to lift the ban on Jallikattu.

Led by CPI District Secretary R. Thirugnanam, the demonstrators urged the Centre to immediately promulgate the ordinance taking into consideration the cultural importance of the Jallikattu and the widespread spontaneous upsurge of students’ community in support of the sport. They also demanded that PETA be banned from India.

They appealed to the State Government to take necessary legal steps to overturn the ban and amend the PCA.

CPI National Executive Member C. Mahendran and Tamizhaga Vivasaya Sangam General Secretary V Duraimanickam addressed the demonstrators.

AITUC State unit Secretaries R. Thillaivanam and C. Chandrakumar, District President Sevaiya and District Deputy Secretary Durai Mathivanan and several others participated.
