KOCHI: The Adani Group has sought more time to complete the Vizhinjam Port project.

In its request to the Kerala Government, the company said unfavourable weather affected the project and that the drudgers were damaged in cyclone Ockhi.

According to the agreement the construction of the port has to be completed in 1,460 days. Adani Group said that the deadline could not be met under the present conditions.

Over 40 per cent of the drudging work has been completed till now. While 53 hectares of land need to be reclaimed, only 33 hectares have been reclaimed so far. The construction of pier (pulimuttu) is progressing at snail’s pace, the company said in its request.

“Parts of the pier have also been damaged in the cyclone,” it added.

When contacted, official sources said an independent private agency would study the company’s requirement.
