Ammamma’s Adupangarai – Neer More (Flavoured buttermilk)

Neer More(Flavoured buttermilk)

* Curd – 2 cups
* Curry leaves – A handful
* Coriander leaves – A handful
* Ginger – 2 cm cube sized piece
* Salt – to taste
* Asafietida – 1/2 tsp
* Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
* Gingely oil – 1 tsp
* Fenugreek seeds – 1 tsp

Mix the first five ingredients together in a blender with 1.5 ltr water and beat till froth. Season with mustard seeds and asafietida powder in oil. Just add the fenugreek seeds to the butter milk n transfer into an earthen ware preferably. This buttermilk is a good coolant, increases digestion, reduces stress, improves sleep as disturbances arising from disorders of stomach and digestion. It reduces stress which is the main causative for stomach related ailments,as it is an instant energy drink.

Nutritional facts:

One cup of buttermilk contains around 100 calories and 2.2 grams of fat (1.3 grams being saturated) whereas whole milk contains around 150 calories and 8 grams of fat (5 of which are saturated).

Buttermilk also contains a wide range of vitamins and minerals, including calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and zinc. It contains probiotics that aid in digestion and prevent gastrointestinal, urinary and vaginal infections.

Ginger and asafietida promote digestion and prevent accumulation of gas and bloating.

Curry leaves are a rich source of iodine and prevent hair loss and greying.

Coriander leaves are said to reduce cholesterol and thus aid in weight reduction.

Regular intake if this cooling drink supplemented with water flushes out toxins thus enabling a healthy body and mind with a glowing skin.
