Jayarajan plea to party workers

KOCHI: The CPI-M has appealed to its members to drop their stir against the Kannur bypass project. Party’s Kannur unit Secretary P. Jayarajan, who visited the houses of 11 CPI-M activists, persuaded them to give up the stir. He said the party would consider taking them back to the organisation.
The protest, led by Suresh Keezhatoor under the title ‘Vayalkiligal’, began in 2017 in protest against the Government plan to construct a national highway bypass through paddy field in Kannur. The protest was called off, following an assurance from the Government that a different route would be taken.

However, the Government failed to keep its work and issued notification to acquire land in Keezhatoor. Villagers began their protest against and a few CPI-M men torched a shed put up by the protesters. The party cadres were arrested and later suspended from the party for their act.
