One more succumbs to Nipah virus, death toll in Kozhikode at 12

Kochi : One more person succumbed to Nipah virus in Kozhikode, taking the toll to 11, while 15 persons were tested positive with the virus today.

The person who died at Kozhikkode Medical College today was identified as Moosa who was the father of two who were the first to get infected with the virus and had died along with another relative without responding to treatment.

Meanwhile, those who were tested positive for the virus included a nursing student. A total of 136 persons are under observation in isolation wards. Health department is making all efforts to get information on any one falling sick and not reporting to hospitals. In such cases, the department has been empowered to visit their homes and get them hospitalised.

All examinations and interviews have been rescheduled. Vacation classes have been cancelled and all the government programmes suspended for one week. Guidelines have been issued to doctors on the use of antiviral drugs received from Malaysia.
